Promotionsprojekt: Early History of the Macedonian Kingdom until the Middle of the 4th Century BCE
Macedonia dominated the Classical world for nearly two centuries and reached its highest point of development during the Hellenistic period. The early history of Macedonia remained unexplored for a long time. Scholars have turned much more often to the consideration of the reign of Philip II and/or Alexander the Great. However, namely historical events of archaic and classical times led Macedonia to its great political influence in the Hellenistic period.
The project is dedicated to the studying of the early history of Macedonian kingdom. The questions considered are of the foundation of the Argead dynasty, the cultural influence of Scythia, Thrace, Illyria and Greece on the early Macedonian state, the reigns of the representatives of the Argead royal house and the role of Macedonia in the main political events of Greek history. A special place is occupied by the study of Macedonian numismatics and its comparison with Thracian coins. Much attention is paid to the analysis of the relationships of the Macedonians with barbarians, as well as with the Greek world and the process of the Hellenization of the Macedonian kingdom.
